Saturday, October 13

Top quality sausage rolls and home-cooked cakes, along with bric-a-brac, books, crafts and a host of other items will be on sale at the monthly Old Felixstowe Community Market.

The OFCA event at the Old Felixstowe Community Centre, Ferry Road, runs from 10am to noon. There will be refreshments, too. Admission free.

Saturday, October 13

Mayor Graham Newman is hosting his Mayor’s Charity Quiz Night at St. Mary’s Church Hall, Walton, from 7pm.

Teams of up to six will compete during the evening, which will raise funds for the mayor’s two chosen charities for his year in office, BASIC Life and The Laydens Community Cafe.

Tickets are £8, including a Ploughman’s supper and soft drinks, and pre-booking is essential. Tickets available from the BASIC Life shops in Hamilton Road and Walton High Street (01394 272618 / 279400 and The Laydens Community Café.

Billed as the finest tribute act for the band they imitate, The Bon Jovi Experience will be a real treat for fans of the hard rocking 80s group.

The five-piece tribute, led by Tony Pearce, have performed live with Jon Bon Jovi himself and are featured on the official Bon Jovi website, a great endorsement.

The Spa Pavilion hosts the two-hour show at 7.30pm

Sunday, October 14

There’s a great day out for railway enthusiasts at Felixstowe Leisure Centre, Undercliff Road West, with a popular annual event organised by members of the Felixstowe Lions Club.

The group’s Model Railway Exhibition runs from 11am to 5pm and always features some stunning lay-outs as well as the hand-built steam engines of the Gauge One Model Railway Association. There are lots of other exhibits and stalls, too.

Admission is £4 for adults, £1 children (10-16 years) and children under 10 free. All profits to Lions charities.

Tuesday, October 16

Lewis Tyler will give a talk on The River Gipping Trust at the Suffolk Wildlife Trust Felixstowe Group’s meeting at Broadway House, Orwell Road, at 7.30pm.

Admission is £2.50 – all welcome.

Tuesday, October 16 to Thursday, October 18

St Peter & St Paul Church, Ferry Road, Felixstowe, hosts the new work by playwright Suzanne Hawkes, Courage Calls to Courage, which focuses on the struggle for the vote between Emmeline Pankhurst’s Suffragettes and Millicent Fawcett’s Suffragists.

Black & White Productions will be presenting the play with original music and songs.

All performances are at 7.30pm.

Wednesday, October 17

Held in His Lordship’s Library’s at the Orwell Hotel, Hamilton Road, the Amaryllis Quartet present lunchtime concert organised by Music in Felixstowe.

The music – which starts at 11.30am – will include Brahms Quartet op 51 no2 in D minor and will be played by Rebecca Scott-Smissen and Franziska Mattishent on violins, Wendy Gudgin viola and Harriet Bennett on cello.

There is an opportunity to go birdwatching with members of the Felixstowe branch of Suffolk Wildlife Trust. They will be at Kyson Hill in Woodbridge (meet at Broomheath Car Park – map reference TM 265 477) at 9am. Cost is £3. Fore more details call Dave Langlois on 01394 210535.

Thursday, October 18

For lovers of poetry there is the chance to take part in an evening listening to poems and sharing poems, new original works from members as well as well-known ones. The Felixstowe Café Poets will meet at 7.30pm at the Orwell Hotel, Hamilton Road – admission is £2.50.

Felixstowe Photographic Society is holding an “In Practice” evening at Broadway House, Orwell Road, at 7.30am.

The group caters for beginners through to the more experienced workers in the craft and anyone interested in photography is welcome to go along.

There is no charge for two evenings to enable people to get a feeling for the society and its activities, while annual membership is £25.
