Imagine a world where the Victorians were far more technologically advanced than they were in reality … from steam driven airships to mechanical time machines.
And the family-friendly Felixstowe Steampunk Halloween Festival will be an extravaganza with a seasonal spooky twist – with fun for all ages and some scary after-hours antics at a venue said by some to be Suffolk’s most haunted.
The festival takes place at Landguard Fort on Saturday, October 27 and Sunday, October 28 from 10.30am to 5pm at Landguard Fort.
Stephen Rampley, Landguard Marketing and Events Co-ordinator, said: “We are very excited to bring this big new event to Felixstowe and Landguard. It promises to be a real Steampunk Halloween spectacle with something for all ages.
“Everyone is welcome to come and discover this new special event which is something completely different for both adults and children. It promises to be a real spectacle to remember.”
There will be a host of steampunk activities, curiosities and eccentricities and more than 20 performers and entertainers, including live music from the outrageous Wattingers with their ‘steamgoth’ blues, steampunk pirate Gurdybird, Erywd the juggling Conwy jester and the unique Captain of the Lost Waves, plus Victorian magic shows with Mr Bean, gin, magnificent birds of prey, a huge display of Meccano, tea duelling, hamster racing and Nerf gun shoot-outs ‘Wild West style’.
Street entertainers include Captain Leaky, while the fabulous Burlesque Bombshells will be bringing their unique steampunk moves and stylish costumes, and other attractions include Russell and Foxee and Ichabod Steam and his Animatronic Band with their submarine caravan
There will be a chance to get your dancing shoes on with Slap Ma Girdle Morris (on Saturday) and Hell’s Bells Morris Dancers (on Sunday), or enjoy The Retro Clones and musician Paul Snook accompanied by portraits of himself of himself that ‘come to life’ to play his classic songs.
Children can try their hand at archery, and meet Bob the steampunk dog and solve the Pumpkin quiz trail.
And in the Time Travelling Tea Tent there will be hamster racing and fox tossing (though no real animals will be involved!)
Visitors are encouraged to attend in their Steampunk finery… anything goes as long as it’s a little Steampunked!
For braver souls, there is also a special evening event at Landguard Fort on Saturday, October 27 – the ‘Night of the Macabre’ with some Halloween chills and thrills from 7.30pm to 11.30pm.
