They were making a splash at Felixstowe Leisure Centre – with the pool hall filled with cheering and applause as it hosted a children’s swimming gala.
The edges of the pool were teeming with youngsters cheering on their peers.
Races were closely fought in the pool as children took it in turns to race each other while their friends, all donning swimming caps for the event, cheered on from the poolside.
Felixstowe Swimming Club held such events, the club formed not long after the pool was built.
The leisure centre in Undercliff Road West was built on the site of the former Pier Pavilion in 1985, 10 years before the swimming gala, and had become a popular attraction
in the town.
As well as the main swimming pool, when it opened the centre also boasted a variety of teaching and baby pools as well a water slide and other multi-purpose facilities, including an indoor bowls hall.
