There has been a festive treat in Felixstowe as a synthetic ice rink has featured in the town.

The rink, which allows skaters to slide on specialised skates, was located on the forecourt of the Great Eastern Square shopping centre.

Skaters could have a go for free in an initiative by the Town Council to get shoppers into the town centre.

The rink had been open to the public from December 20 and was packed down on December 23.

Felixstowe mayor, Graham Newman, who opened the rink, said: “The idea behind the ice rink was to bring in more custom into Felixstowe town centre.

“People think that they can’t do their shopping in the town centre but I think you can.

“The rink has been successful. There were a lot of people here on Thursday when the weather was good.

“I would like to thank the Co-op for their co-operation with the town council.”
