The Christmas countdown has begun . . . with lots taking place in Felixstowe this December to help you enjoy the festive spirit and get ready for the big day.
There are some favourite annual events taking place – including the Light up with the Lions Christmas switch-on, the Salvation Army Christmas Tree Festival, Rudolph and Santa’s trip around town, and, of course, the Christmas Day Dip in the sea, for which places can be booked now.
Free ice skating is also returning for four days with Felixstowe Town Council and sponsorship partners the East of England Co-operative Society providing the synthetic rink at Great Eastern Square.
Rides for smaller children will also be provided and there will be stalls serving food and drinks.
Everything gets under way on December 1 when the town centre will once again be transformed into a festive fairyland as the decorative lights are illuminated and tree on the Triangle in Hamilton Road is switched on.
The Lions have been busy putting all the decorations in place and people will have seen them at work.
As usual there will be a full day of entertainment before the traditional carols and countdown.
The same day St John’s Church will be holding its Victorian Christmas Market, a firm favourite in the resort’s Christmas calendar, between 10am and noon at the church in Orwell Road – with lots of stalls and stallholders in traditional costume to add to the atmosphere.
Father Christmas and his faithful reindeer Rudolph begin their trips nightly around the resort in aid of Save the Children and charities supported by the Rotary Club of Felixstowe on December 4.
They will also meet families in Hamilton Road on December 8, the Co-op car park on December 15, Lidl at the Garrison Lane/Langer Road roundabout on December 16 and Morrisons on December 23.
The Salvation Army’s Christmas Tree Festival takes place from December 4 to December 8 when its hall in Cobbold Road will be packed with a variety of trees decorated on different themes by local organisations, charities, clubs and societies.
The other big event is the panto – the Spa Pavilion once again hosting Dennis Lowe’s Theatre Company, which is this year performing Sleeping Beauty for an 11-show run, including the traditional Boxing Day show.
Other events throughout the month will be highlighted on our weekly 10 Things to Do in Felixstowe guide.
