A number of care homes linked up with schools across the Felixstowe catchment area for a community social event
Attending Felixstowe Through the Ages, held at the town’s Orwell Hotel, were residents from Foxgrove and Maynell House, both part of the Healthcare Homes group, along with several other care homes in the area.
Residents were joined by pupils from schools including Fairfield Infants, Colneis Junior, Kingsfleet Junior, and Felixstowe Academy.
The idea behind the gathering of young students and care home residents was to bring different generations together to forge valuable intergenerational links within the community, allowing each to share experiences and gain a better insight into the lives and needs of others.
Magda Kurdziel, who jointly manages Foxgrove and Maynell House, said “Our residents thoroughly enjoyed a lovely afternoon meeting the children from the schools and speaking about Felixstowe’s past and its potential future
“Some of the children were particularly interested in talking to our residents Marjorie and May, who are 100 and 101 years old respectively.
“The changes in Felixstowe and society that they have both witnessed is fascinating, and it was clear the children were intrigued to hear their stories.
“Everyone had a really enjoyable morning; it was a very interesting and enlightening experience for everyone who attended.”
